Eat The Rainbow: Count Your Colors
Colorful fruits and vegetables contain powerful antioxidants and phytonutrients that can help protect your energy, boost metabolism and support your cellular health.
Think of eating a rainbow of color as an insurance policy for your greater health and wellness. Every color represents a different family of healing compounds.
Make a salad. Fill it with deep greens, yellows, purples, reds, and oranges. Add herbs and spices for flavor and additional healing properties.
Next, fill your meals and snacks with vibrant colorful, seasonal delights like the ones below…
Red: strawberries, raspberries, (antioxidants) apples (pectin & fiber for gut health), dark sweet cherries (for better melatonin production, and better sleep.)
Orange/Yellow: Butternut squash, pumpkin, carrots, yellow peppers, nectarines (vitamin A, vitamin C, great for enhanced immunity) ginger, turmeric (immunity + reduced inflammation.)
Green: leafy greens, bitter greens, spinach, bok choy, broccoli, asparagus (loaded with chlorophyll - energy from the sun!) The bitters - watercress, endive, arugula - (are especially great for cleansing & supporting the liver! Better liver health = better metabolism.)
Blue/Purple: Blueberries, figs, blackberries, eggplant, seaweed, flaxseed and wild rice. (Blues are loaded with antioxidants and in Chinese medicine, blue & purple foods help keep blood vessels healthy!)
